Celebration of World Heart Day 2024 in Cumilla by Heart Care Foundation, Comilla

A Vision for Cardiovascular Health

Dr. Triptish Chandra Ghose, Founder and President of The Heart Care Foundation, Comilla, recently took a significant step toward improving public health. During the event, he presented a seven-point memorandum based on the Action Plan to prevent Cardiovascular Diseases.

To ensure these proposals reach the highest levels of government, Dr. Ghose handed the memorandum to the Deputy Commissioner for delivery to the Ministry of Health & Family Planning of Bangladesh. He expressed his firm belief that these measures would allow future generations to live in a world with significantly reduced risks of heart disease.

The Seven-Point Action Plan

The memorandum outlines a comprehensive strategy to combat heart disease through policy and infrastructure changes. The seven key points include:

1. Warning Labels: Shopping markets must place stickers on food items to warn consumers about heart disease risks.
2. Urban Infrastructure: Local authorities should establish footpaths and dedicated cycle lanes for the public.
3. Pollution Control: The government should ban unfit vehicles from the streets and prohibit the construction of mills in residential areas.
4. Green Spaces: Urban planners should create green parks to promote clean air and a livable environment.
5. Medical Priority: Hospitals must prioritize preventive cardiology by establishing dedicated departments and specialized institutions.
6. Consumer Safety: Authorities must take strict measures to stop the distribution of fake medicines and impure food.
7. National Recognition: The government should officially recognize September 29 as World Heart Day.

Community Impact and Support

In addition to these policy efforts, the Heart Care Foundation Comilla remained active on the ground. On the eve of World Heart Day, the foundation organized a Heart Camp on September 27. Consequently, more than 500 heart patients received medical services from a team of dedicated professionals.

Renowned cardiologist Dr. Triptish Chandra Ghose led the medical team alongside Dr. Golam Shahjahan, Secretary General of the Foundation, and Dr. Mallika Biswas, Vice President of HCF. Furthermore, several Rotary International members, teachers from Modern High School and YWCA School, and various community leaders from Comilla attended the programs to show their support.
